Abstract: As one of the well-known literary leaders in Songjiang area, Dong Qichang wasamong the prominent figures who had ever promoted the local culture of Songjiang. Whileappreciating calligraphy and painting works, Dong Qichang wrote a large number ofcalligraphy and painting annotations to enhance the status of the literati and celebrities inSongjiang area. At the same time, he took an active part in spreading the local culture bypublicizing the local scenic and historical spots in his his poetry and calligraphy and paintingworks. What’s more, Dong Qichang also actively participated in local social and culturalactivities to give full play to their social functions, and in writing a large number of texts aboutlocal political and cultural landscapes so as to establish and maintain the reputation andinfluence of the local culture. Thus, Dong Qichang successfully shaped his own culturalreputation as well as promoted the local culture of Songjiang area.
