Abstract: With the rapid development of digital media in the 21st century, e-books have beenwidely used. The traditional paper media are facing unprecedented crisis of survival. How to design a book that not only meets its basic functions, but also allows readers to obtain knowledge in a relaxed and pleasant reading environment, and feels the pleasure of reading has become the focus of research in book design today. This paper takes the “camouflage” of insects and the “living environment” of insects in the “Encyclopedia of Insects” as the researchobject. Through the research on the characteristics, classification, habits and other aspects of insects, this paper discusses how to design an interesting manual book from the aspects of manual book making, free format design and material, hand painting, structure and morphology. The value of this book report is to develop ideas and forms of expression for interesting manual book design from practice.
