Taking Symbols as Images

——The Surface Features of the Impressionistic Novels in the New Century

Abstract: Impressionistic Novels have come into the Chinese literature like the turbulent waves from the horizon in the new century. From the poetic level, taking symbols as images is the basic surface feature of the impressionistic novels. This paper analyzes the interesting basic forms of taking symbols as images. It also points out that, behind taking symbols as images, the aesthetic trend is that the images in the novels transfer the signified into the signifier and that the functions of the images are expanding constantly.
