Abstract: The popularity of ghostwriting and faking undoubtedly exerts huge negative influences on the development of the market of painting and calligraphy. During the period of the Republic of China, the physical nature of the works of painting and calligraphy was enlarged infinitely with the prosperity of the market of painting and calligraphy. On the one hand, a large number of orders for works of painting and calligraphy increased the working pressure of painters and calligraphers. On the other hand, the situation of the market in short supply gave counterfeiters an opportunity that could be exploited to their advantage. Besides, painters and calligraphers ignored the behavior of faking and ghostwriting and they lacked legal protection, which fostered the trend of faking and ghostwriting and resulted in the popularity of ghostwriting and faking.
